This year April has stayed cold much longer than normal and it's well below the long term average. Yesterday yet again we had a bit of snow overnight. I thought of titling this post "Is it ever going to end?" I'm certainly fed up with the cold weather (like I think everyone around here is).
The morning view!
The flurries continued on and off all day too, with a good dose of cold winds. It made for a day to stay inside. Hopefully it will warm up as the forecast promises by Friday. Still, the long term average at this time of April is 14°C according to The Weather Network and the temperature all the rest of April is only expected to be in the 6° to 9° range. Can't believe that in only 3 weeks the leaves will be coming out.
Maybe the cold weather is like the Covid 19, and staying on longer. Love the misty view, and way too cold to be outside, hope those pansies are frost hardy, one year we had them planted in May and they flowered right through until way past the end of our winter. They were in tubs with tulip bulbs, and looked so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWinter has to be over one of these days! :)
ReplyDeleteFor once I can say I do not envy you that...usually snow always gives me a thrill like a school kid..and always sort of wish it were here for an instant...but I am truly ready for warm weather.
ReplyDeleteYou really have been hit for a longer period of time. I had snow covering my yard and then two days later I was mowing it. We had a very warm today and I am wishing for less hot day now.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have the snow but we certainly had a cold wind today! The buds are starting to pop on the Maple trees!
ReplyDeleteIt was an odd winter and the strange weather continues.
ReplyDeleteYour pansies are certainly getting a workout. We had a below normal March but April has been much warmer. I'm hoping that you will soon be plenty warm and remembering these days wistfully. :-)
ReplyDeleteToday was a nice day here:)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking the same thing as you about this cold April. The air just refuses to warm up this year. No snow on the ground here but up around Wingham today the ground was completely white with winds whipping snow around like the middle of winter.
ReplyDeleteYou really do have to endure such long winters. The met office say this is one of the warmest Aprils on record here though I hadn't realised it was exceptional, apart from there being very few frosty mornings.
ReplyDeleteHere in Switzerland we have been totally spoiled. Most of January was hot and sunny with snow on the ground. Then we had falling snow, which is fine for a ski resort, and since March it’s been gorgeous! OK a few grey days but so much sunshine it’s really amazing. I have got quite a tan just pottering about in the garden admiring the wildflowers and lizard spotting. I can’t help feeling it cannot last forever. We had a bearded vulture yesterday flying very close (very rare indeed): super exciting. I hope it warms up for you soon xx
ReplyDeleteI think we had even more snow than you over Tuesday night and we are so close! Yes, we, too, are very tired of it.
ReplyDeleteToday, finally a reprieve. 8C will feel amazing especially if we get the sun again. Hoping they are right and we'll be in double digits from here on in and above freezing overnight.
Have to agree with you hoping that the weather will improve soon.
ReplyDeleteThinking on the positive side by people staying inside we're not being exposed to the Virus.
Be Safe and Enjoy the changing season.
It's about time.
the snow is so pretty but i understand how you may be ready for it to end!! it will be much easier for you to get outside and enjoy the fresh air!!
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been warm cold warm cold... it can't make up its mind.
