Winter Weather

I think the school buses here have been cancelled 4 out of 5 days this week, either due to blowing snow or to icy conditions.  We've gone from windy days (when those trees by the harbour got coated with ice), through freezing rain and back to snow, propelled by winds carving drifts across the yard.  Almost all of it has been very cold!

It started out with a beautiful sunrise Tuesday, a forecast of the freezing rain to come.

The next day we had a brief period of sunshine, but it was bitterly cold.  This is after the freezing rain; the squirrels were running across the icy surface.

This on the other hand, was today, and it still looks the same 8 hours later.  We must have got 8 - 10".

This streamer off Georgian Bay is the cause, though in the picture its broken up and heading off to the east.  It was parked over Meaford (just east of Owen Sound) for several hours dumping snow.

It is Robbie burns birthday today, and we're headed out to enjoy a burns supper, complete with Haggis.

  1. Weather radar images are always interesting -- as are GoogleEarth images. I wish there was easy access to leaf-off aerial (satellite) images which show much more ground details than readily available summer photos.

  2. Brrr! It looks like the Northeast and Midwest are in for a very cold period coming up. Even colder than you've got, I think. :-)

  3. Sure as been a cold winter. Pretty snowy scenes. I don't mind the cold and snow, its the wind and ice that I don't like.

  5. I hope you can just stay home during all this and not have to get out...it is one thing to go if you want...not as much fun when you HAVE to go. Love that last photo!

Hope you enjoyed the haggis and drove carefully!

  7. " The wintry west extends his blast, and hail and rain does blaw;" stay safe on those icy roads, and enjoy Robbie Burns and the haggis meal.

  10. The lake streamers were vicious yesterday (Friday). We had a brilliant sunny day between blasts from the west.

  11. We are in the middle of a heatwave so I'd love a little bit of cold down this way.

  12. I'm afraid next winter we too will have to once again begin suffering through those miserably cold and snowy winter conditions. Oh perish the thought...………..
