Winter Fences

The world is still white here, and will be for a long time yet.  We're forecast to get the coldest days of the winter this weekend, with potential wind chills of -40°C!  I'm turning increasingly to photograph the rural landscape as much as the winter season (you can only take so many pictures of white snow), and you can often accomplish from the car window - frozen fingers are one of the hazards of winter photography around here.  Hence my pictures of fences and barns, and coming up in the future some other interesting buildings.

It was a brilliant sunny day when I photographed this fence and it's shadow on a modern beef farm.

An older fence, but still effective at keeping the cattle in.

Quite a few different fences in this picture, but they work for the livestock on this farm.

I like this fence, disappearing far to the back of the field, partly because I see it every time I drive into town, so now I can mentally picture this view in all seasons.  The heifers will be back in the field on the left in a few months.

All these relatively modern fences are the paddocks on a large horse farm a short distance north of here.

All pictures today taken out the car window, on COLD winter days!

Tomorrow I'll link to:

  3. Yesterday, I so loved the avenue of the ski trail , and today the fences are all super. A change to bare white snow, they give an added perspective to what might be plain whiteness all over.

  4. All such great fences! I am not looking forward to the temps this weekend so the car sounds like a good idea although I usually walk most paces.

  5. These are awesome photos and fences! The snow really allows the fences to stand out more than other times of the year, so there is an advantage to taking these photos in winter. :)

  14. Great winter fence pictures. One might not even notice these in the summer! My favorite is the first one with the blue shadows from the fence. My hubby would love that three car garage on the house in the background!

  17. Did you head out to Uxbridge area or Stouville way. They are all similar barns and scenery as real wonderful takes in the winter.

I never knew Toronto was country?
