Country Roads
Country roads where the woods grows on both sides have a particular appeal to me. This road is a favourite, where a popular snowshoe trail is found. It was a cold but sunny winter's day, with heavy frost.
There'd been some light snow that stuck to even the smallest frosty branches, making for a particularly beautiful drive between the trees.
I always think these roads will lead me someplace interesting - even if I already know where they lead.
As I stopped for a picture, a gentle breeze blew through and a million tiny snowflake diamonds cascaded through the air down from the trees, sparkling in the morning sun.
I don't think I caught the snowflake diamonds, but I did catch the atmosphere looking into the forest.
The gentle curves on this road just make it more interesting.
I drove to the end and turned around, capturing one more view on my way out. I could have spent several hours and taken many more pictures!

There are a few roads on the drive to our cottage,with woods on either side...
Especially in the summer, with the canopy of fresh leaves....

ReplyDeleteOne of the really interesting facets of your excellent blog is that you make us look at familiar sights and examine them in ways which forbid us for evermore simply taking them for granted. There is a touch of Robert Frost in this one. It's evocative, poetic and makes us think.

ReplyDeleteThis is Sideroad 16, on the west side of the valley, east of the 7th Line. It dead ends as you come out to a view of the valley. The snowshoe loop starts on the north side of the road, a few hundred yards in from the west, shortly before the curve in the road. It's the Sligo Side Trail of the Bruce Trail, with blue blazes, and there is a sign if you're watching carefully. People just park along the road, but traffic is virtually nil. At the east end, it's the main Bruce Trail, heading north from the road, again with a sign, and parking along the side of the road, or at the turnaround at the end. The loop goes partly along open fields, and a lot through the woods, including a long boardwalk through a swamp. You just return to whichever end you leave your car at via the road. Nice hour and a half walk for me, but then I stop and take a lot of pictures.

ReplyDeleteSo peaceful! I enjoy seeing scenes like this- and take comfort to see that there are still country roads to follow that are still framing the landscape. It's hard to get the snowflakes to show up. I've tried many times. I always forget to go to manual focus which might help. I tend to leave the camera on the automatic setting and forget to tweak!
