Before we leave Muskoka, 'up north' to come back down here where it's only -20°C, I wanted to share some shadow shots. I enjoy searching for various different interesting shadows, especially in the late afternoon sun when they look almost blue on the ground. Since we had 3 sunny days, there were lots of shadows.
I really liked these gentle bumps down the hillside. The bumps are clumps of grass under the snow, and the hollows down each side are drainage lines down this wet slope..
Nearby the slope was almost perfectly flat, with very different shadow patterns.
This was a little earlier in late afternoon when I headed out to walk along beside the track-set ski trail, on my snowshoes. One of those times when having my own shadow in the picture seemed appropriate.
My own shadow is still here, but you can also see how the track-set ski trail ends as the trail heads downhill. This is because skiers will need to snowplow a little as they head down the hill here, to successfully make the sharp corner at the bottom! At this jpoint they don't want to have their skis stuck in a track!
And there were lots of shadows across the trails at Arrowhead Park when we went snowshoeing. They use the some of the summer campground roads for some of the winter trails.
Love the shadow shots! And I'm loving all those snowy scenes. Missing them here in our mountains - wah!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos ! My kind of perfect day out in the fresh air and nature taking photos ! Sounds like a fun time snowshoeing through the country side the last time I went snowshoeing is with the old wooden snowshoes lol before the modern ones were made lol I need to get me some modern ones lol ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteThe first two shots are lovely! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI feel like coming home, looking at these shots. I miss Muskoka.
ReplyDeleteOnce again beautiful pictures. We still haven't bought our snow shoes yet. Maybe next week.
ReplyDeleteIt was 1 degree F here this morning. Not quite as cold as by you.
Love the pictures... That last one is my favorite this time --although they are ALL good. Did I tell you that here in our area of TN, we have had almost NO snow this year???? We've had some cold temps --but just not the snow they 'thought' we would get.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
I think I like your very tall shadows the best. Great snow pictures.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much clean thick snow in your area. I wish to dive in there. I haven't gone to the nearby countrysides where probably I could find the same. I like snow, especially the cottony ones.
ReplyDeleteI don't snowplow well. Guess that's why I don't try anything except the easy trails!
ReplyDeletebeautiful shadow shots!
ReplyDeleteisn't it funny how our eyes sort of "filter out" things like shadows and then you take photos and realize how prominent they really are in the overall scene? looks like a beautiful day outdoors !
