A (Mostly) Green Christmas

Snow has been coming and going so fast here that it's hard to keep track.  It was white two days before Christmas, but we woke up to temperatures slightly over freezing and a green Christmas.  Only a few bits of snow left where it had been a little deeper, and widespread fog.

I can't remember if it was actually raining or just melting, but it made no difference, a pretty dull looking day.

We sat beside our little tiny tree and exchanged gifts.  Look what Mrs. F.G. came up with for me, since I'm always feeling chilly.  It's a sherpa blanket, a very fuzzy blanket with a built-in hood.  I can attest to the warmth, though I'm using it for blanket on the bed rather than like this.

Mrs. F.G. outdid herself by cooking a full turkey dinner for us, with pumpkin pie for desert.  Even though it was just the two of us it was delicious.  A co-worker of our daughter-in-law had been exposed to covid, so they couldn't come over to join us.

Today it has started to snow and is slowly accumulating back to white again.  It may change to freezing drizzle this evening, but the forecast is a little unclear about this, so we'll wait and see.  We have nowhere to go.

The Omicron variant of covid seems to be sweeping through Ontario and elsewhere, though the risk of serious illness seems lower, especially if you've had your two vaccines plus a booster, which we have.  Never-the-less we've heard of 7 cases close enough to impact us, from close friends and a relative right here in Meaford, to 3 families among our more distant relatives.  Feels almost inevitable that we're all going to get it at some point.

  3. Turkey dinner looks so good. We had turkey as well. Your soft blanket should keep you cozy, FG.

After the control of the virus we’ve had here on PEI, it is rampant now. We are reluctant to go anywhere. We aren’t eligible for the booster yet.

  6. Your dinner looks like it was wonderful! For the first time I know of someone with Covid and 2 other people isolating after being in contact with an infected person. These are scary times even with a booster. Stay safe. It is freezing drizzle down here now.

  7. I absolutely love that sherpa blanket and have to say you wear it well! And that dinner looks so wonderful. It's nice to have nowhere to go and hopefully you can stay clear of the virus. I too wonder if it's a "when I get it" rather than "if".

  10. It almost seems like we are living in a protective little bubble here in Bayfield regarding Covid and it's strains. Of course living almost a hermit like life as we do with very little socializing maybe we're just not fully aware what is going on around us sometimes. I like that sherpa blanket of yours. Had it been red, people would be calling you Santa. All the best to you folks in the coming New Year and lets hope for a mild winter and an early Spring:))

  12. Nice blanket - it definitely looks cozy! The Christmas dinner looks so delicious too.

I can send you some snow if you'd like. Though I'm sure you'll pass. As for Covid, today will be the first day since before Christmas that we'll hear of the numbers here in Saskatchewan. Apparently it went into hibernation over the holidays, at least as far our provincial government would believe. Few testing sites were open so I suspect the numbers will be lower than actual. Sorry, didn't mean to start a rant.

  13. You Christmas dinner looks just like ours, except my plate had more stuffing and no potatoes -- love that stuffing. I've never had bad stuffing, but some is better than others -- but I always eat too much stuffing.

  14. You look cozy all wrapped up. We have snow and ice here and will have one or t’other until March some time. At least that is how it always goes.

  18. Keep warm is important. I like the snow on the patio and you chairs are so wonderful. You had a wonderful feast. We eat meals like that alone and then eat lots of leftovers. Have a great rest of the year my friend.
