The two big Sugar Maples out on the golf course.
Looking left from the deck,
and looking right.
I love watching this big dramatic change every year. I must have dozens of pictures of trees and of leaves emerging. I can tell you which species get their leaves first, and which come last. But they're all certainly green here now.
The neighbours have an expensive looking landscape job in their back yard, very nice although not my style. As you can see in the lower left corner of this picture, beyond their stone patio the rest of the yard is covered in river rocks - no grass to mow here. I've been wondering how they'd handle the weeds that would eventually pop up between the stones. Well, we found out today when a herbicide applicator arrived, spraying everything with a strong herbicide that kills everything. I quickly went inside off the deck!
Today is very warm, but also very windy as a cold front approaches tonight.
An amazing change! the Ginkgos still are not fully out here.
ReplyDeleteI really love seeing the contrast in the pictures. Absolutely lovely! And boo hiss to your neighbors weed mitigation activity.
ReplyDeleteNo weeds is good, but that isn't the way I would deal with them. If the rocks are laid in cement, surely there wouldn't be a weed that would dare to grow. Love your pics showing the bare to the lush greenery. What a delightful view over the golf course.
ReplyDeleteSome folks put a barrier under their rocks. Everything is lush and green and moist around my patch too.
ReplyDeleteI love that dramatic change too. My favourite time of year. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like only two people on our street are spraying lawns now. The street is dandelion heaven or the other place, depending on how you see them. We are delighted not to have so much spraying any more. There is enough on the island for agriculture. We didn’t need it outside our door too.
I just pull the weeds out of our stones. Every time I walk around and see one, I just pull it out.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how quickly everything greens up once it starts!
For some reason trees seemed to green-up faster this year than they usually do. But then it may just have been advancing as usual since the years seem to pass by quickly nowadays. Have you thought about photographing one or more of those trees every week for a year?
ReplyDeleteNice group of comparison photos.
ReplyDeleteFun to watch the trees especially in the Spring! I figured as much as that is how I deal with our rocks too...:)
ReplyDeletewow!! it's so pretty there!! it's hot & humid here now, but you guys are sending us a cold front, many thanks!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame about the herbicide.
ReplyDeleteI really like the trees naked and dressed, too!
Definitely like the way you captured the changing season.
ReplyDeleteA Nearby Neighbour had a tree that was leafless two weeks ago. Now it is totally green.
Tell your Neighbour about using Three Parts Vinegar to One Part Dawn Dish Soap into a sprayer. Wait until it hasn't rained for a couple of days to spray the weeds. The Dish Soap holds to the leaves while the Weeds drink the Vinegar. They'll dry up overnight. You haven't hurt the environment and it won't harm humans or pets.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Spring is always so invigorating and encouraging after a long drab colorless winter. So many shades of green and so many colorful flowers. It all culminates so nicely in the month of June.
