Buds on the Trees are Swelling!

Besides the wildflowers (yesterday''s post), the emergence of leaves on the trees also fascinates me.  In fact, this is the biggest single change of spring, transforming the world to green.  I noticed the other day that the buds on a few trees are swelling, so it won't be long now.

This is a big poplar tree across the road that I can see from my bed.  It will be one of the first in bloom.

At the end of the cul-de-sac where I ride are a group of Silver Maples.  They have these clusters of deep red buds.

Though it's a distant photo, these are Beech trees, with their reddish brown narrow pointed buds.

The trees behind our own house are a mix of White Ash and Sugar Maples.  Only the Sugar Maple buds are swelling; the White Ash will be the last trees to show signs of life.

Here's a closer look at the Sugar Maple buds; they will be opening and looking green soon.

  4. You are a bit behind us on the coast. Our trees are in full leaf mode and the Cottonwoods already have their fluffy seeds flying through the air. The birds make a huge racket at 4:30 am and the frogs sing well into the night. Not complaining. I love spring. - Margy

  5. Noticed yesterday the bush lines are beginning to take on a subtle hew. If we ever get some consistent warm weather I think we'll have ourselves a big Spring leaf explosion. Always so refreshing to see new life blooming and blossoming forth at this time of year.

  7. I enjoy watching the buds, blossoms and leaves burst too. Our pussy willows seemed to pop early not giving me enough time to collect new ones for my dry bouquets for the bunky and outhouse.
I missed yesterday's post somehow so have to go see your wildflowers. :)

  8. Good to see that Spring has reached you at last! It fascinates me too, not least because I always notice a few trees budding, then suddenly they're all bursting into leaf.

  14. You'll be seeing green soon! I always so love spring green...just so refreshing after the dull winter colors. Always in the spring, I am glad I live this far south...but in the autumn, I wish I was farther north till it would start earlier....and while we are wishing, I wish I could follow it south and make it last longer.
