The Meaford Tortoise

After our trip to Owen Sound the other day we stopped briefly down by the shoreline to see if we could spot the Meaford Tortoise that's been reported along the shore.  A peculiar conjunction of rock, wind, waves and wood is governing its appearances.

Waves across the bay were lapping gently on the shore.

In the distance a lone fishing boat was busy.

Looking northeast the water was a deeper blue entirely due to the angle of the sun.

Have you spotted our visiting tortoise?

  1. It takes a bit of imagination, but yes it is a tortoise.

  3. Despite wandering around in the deserts of the American Southwest these past 12 winters I never once came across a Tortoise. They are there but I just never saw them. I did see your stone Tortoise though and it looks every bit like a real tortoise too. Say, you don't suppose that's another Tortoise underneath that fella do ya??

  5. Yes, I spy. When I was little I had a tortoise as a pet. Her (actually not sure about that) name was Pansy because she like to eat the flowers as she walked from the back yard to the grass on the side yard. Sadly, someone stole her one day when she was grazing in her usual spot. I think now it is illegal in California to have a tortoise. Mine came from the high school where my dad worked as an assistant principal.

  9. We travelled all through that area this past summer. I enjoyed walking in the footsteps of my ancestors. My last cousin has moved from Meaford to over here in the Ottawa Valley.
