For us, the 'North Woods', with its lichens, fungi and birds, is backed by Sand Lake itself. We've swum in it and canoed across it during the summer, admired it in the fall, and skiid or snowshoed across it in the winter. On the three days we were there we enjoyed more of its moods.
It rained on the day we arrived, and the sun rose the second morning behind dark clouds. We wondered what the day would be like.
But shortly the clouds dispersed, and the sun shone sparkling across the silver lake.
A very different Blueberry Island from the foggy image on day one! Note a little bit of colour starting among the trees on the far slope.
We walked the entire shore of the bay we were in, right down to the west corner with the shallow water and the reeds (probably actually a rush species if I stopped to identify it).
By the middle of the day we had a pretty typical view of the lake from the path leading down from the cottage.
This by the way, was the view out the back window of our camper van. Not too bad for our first adventure!
The next morning the sun rose behind clouds again, but the blue sky promised another beautiful fall day, which it was. Another enjoyable trip to the north woods.
A visit to a piece of heaven by the look of it! Gorgeous!
