Evening Skies

I headed out early yesterday evening to try and get some pictures in that 'golden hour' before the sun sets.  I think I was a little late, because it was getting darker by the moment.  But I experimented with 'landscape' shots of some barns - and the beautiful blue sky.

I'm quite pleased with this one, one of my favourite old barns, a small one no longer used.  Just getting a little too dark I think, but I learned a lot from my efforts.

I turned around to get back in the car and saw another farmstead across the road nicely lit up in the sun.

On the way home I passed this nice red barn, with a very long row of wrapped hay bales, but now it's definitely a little too dark - still, the sky is nice.

Just down the road, same sky but a different barn.

I had a lot of difficulty after loading these on the computer, with large dark vignetting patches from the lens, in the upper corners.  I'm going to ask about that when I take it in for repair of the auto-focus.  The darker upper left corner is obvious in this picture.

And finally, the evening sky over the valley, with the local landmark, 'Old 'baldy', on the horizon.  We'll probably walk out there this weekend, along with hundreds of others; it's a very popular Thanksgiving hike on the Bruce Trail.

  4. Great shots. I love the dramatic sky. Well, after the golden hour comes the blue hours, which is an opportunity at a different, and just a lovely, type of photography.

  7. Such dramatic skies and interesting locations. Vignetting is usually caused by having zoom lenses on their widest setting with the aperture wide open. If you're using a lens-hood as well that can also add to the problem.
