Fall Colour Begins

You will all be glad to know that we have resolved our recent hacking and apparently not actually lost any money.  All new bank accounts and new credit cards, so there is a lot of detail to sort out, but we are getting there.  We have now notified all those who we pay automatically and all our pension agencies of our new account numbers.  We just do not have our new credit cards activated yet.  Seems to be some confusion there.

For many years we have maintained a second credit card through another bank, for safety while travelling, so we have been able to use it in the meantime.  This is one safety mechanism you can consider for yourself.  I will have more ideas soon.  By the way, we always pay off the cards at the end of each month; allowing a balance to accumulate on a credit card is the absolute worst financial mistake in my opinion.

In the meantime, fall colour has arrived!  It is rapidly becoming a colourful landscape around here as we approach the peak of fall colour this week.  Here are a few first samples!

Shrubs change colouome sr just like trees.  This is a Burning Bush just around the corner.

There is one big Sugar Maple a little further around the corner that has lots of lower branches, some of which almost reach the street, so I can get close to it.  This is a tree that turns orange rather than red, but it sure is beautiful in my eyes.  Different trees of the same species (mostly Sugar Maple) seem to have their own preferred shade  of fall colour.  I love the dark branches against the sky as well as the leaves.

More soon!

  1. We have two bank accounts, started years ago when we found that one branch was leaving our small township. So thankful it was sorted for you without a loss .Those Autumn leaves, we do get the colour changes, but way down south in the colder regions, the difference is stunning.

  2. Thank goodness you are getting things straightened out without any financial loss. Good advice about the credit cards.
I can't get over how beautiful the trees are this year. Seems every second year they really pop!
My drive from home to Durham is breathtaking.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. What a pain in the arse! We changed banks as advised by my financial planner, and our credit card limit is 1/5 of the other one.
The CPP stuff was such an issue. I hear you!
I am so sorry you went through this. It's just so wrong.

  4. I'm glad that things are sorting out for you. What a mess to go through though. Love the coloured leaves. There are just scattered trees changing here.

  5. It's great that you didn't lose any money tot he hackers. We too have more than one credit card, with different institutions; one of which is used only for on-line purchases. You are certainly correct that carrying an unpaid balance on credit cards is a huge mistake, one that costs a lot of people a lot of money. It looks like your fall colors are just starting to pop, enjoy the brilliant colors to come.

  6. Glad you didn't lose any money but what a pain in the you know what to spend all that time fixing things! Our checking account was compromised once as we wrote a check to a Repair Shop and then they had a robbery so the thieves had account numbers. We always pay off the cards every month...some cards are 18 -21 % here....no thanks!

  11. I've been considering getting a credit card that I would use just for on-line purchases. We also pay off our entire balance every month.

  13. Glad to hear things are being resolved. Having a second credit card is a good idea.
The colours are coming along nicely. Sometimes I think it is Mother Nature's way of lulling us with the beauty before the dreaded winter arrives.

  14. I am glad to hear you didn’t lose anything with those terrible people, FG. I so agree about running a balance on a credit card. If I can’t pay it off at the end of the month, I can’t afford it and don’t buy it, a valuable lesson we taught our daughter. Delayed gratification is an important thing to learn!

  17. Like you, we have several active credit cards and that saved our bacon onetime when we got hacked by a card reader device in a gas pump in Quartzsite Arizona. Our second credit card from a different bank saw us through until the problem was resolved.....in our favor. We are just entering our peak period for Autumn colors. Always my favorite time of year.
