Off to Collingwood

Friday we were off to have lunch with my cousin in Collingwood.  She has two friends in Wasaga Beach who she comes up to see each summer, and she's kind enough to contact us and try and arrange a lunch.  We met in Collingwood out on the pier where the old grain elevators stand.

We stopped at Subway on our way out of town and picked up some sandwiches.

But when Mrs. F.G. went to the door she encountered this!  The huge Rogers internet outage had left many places with no electronic banking services.  We had to ransack the car and our wallets to find enough money - we're just not used to carrying much cash after the pandemic.

Then it was Grandma Lambes to pick up some cookies.  Mrs. F.G. had packed some picnic veggies to go with these.

We drove east past Blue Mountain, no snow left on the ski runs now.

And through Craigleith where you get a brief look at Georgian Bay.  Notice the Nottawsaga Island Lighthouse?

The pier turned out to be too windy and cold so we retreated inland and sat at these picnic tables outside the old train station which is now a museum.  I love the architecture of these old stations.

The main street of Collingwood is extra wide, wide enough for large patios outside restaurants, and angles parking.  But in the summer it's just too busy for words.

Blue Ridge Meats has their own mascot outside.

At the end of the street, as we turned left, you could see the inner harbour lighthouse straight ahead.  With my fancy new phone camera I was able to get a good telephoto shot through the traffic.

  1. A little chop on the water, no wonder the wind was cool. Lighthouses, they have memories galore.

  3. Another great adventure. I like the train station too. It is a beautiful set of brackets. Cookies and veggies sounds like a great meal.

  5. Thanks for taking us along on your outing. I'm reminded of when I checked out with cash the other day, it was like $20.03. I handed her a $20 dollar bill, then rumaged in my change compartment and it was bare. I shrugged, and she just looked at me. I thought most people give a penny or two (or three) these days. Nope. So back to the back pack and all the compartments, where I found a quarter! She was happy. Anyway, I loved these views over water, and that would be such a fun picnic spot!

  6. That old station must be really beautiful to judge from your photo of the overhang and the brickwork that's visible in the photo.

  7. When I saw that curved wooden architexture I figured that was probably a train station. And it was. I've seen that on other train stations. I think I have only been in Owen Sound once and I think it

  8. I have a recollection of being at a park (provincial?) in Craigleith a very very very longtime ago, but I don’t think we ever toured Collingwood. That is an exemplary train station btw.

  9. Lovely day. Glad you were able to come up with the cash for your meal. My daughter is still having issues with network access from Rogers here in small town Sask.
