The Garden

It was a warmish day one day last week and I got out into the garden for the first time this year.  Of course nothing is up and blooming yet, but there are numerous little bits of green rising above the ground.  It will be fun to watch the transformation in the next few weeks.

The garden itself is still looking mostly brown.

But we do have this 'green man' sitting up among the dried leaves, still visible until all the hostas start to grow.

Once I got down onto the patio a bit I got quite a different view of the golf course, including both those big Sugar Maples I enjoy so much.

We're certainly seeing more birds than over the winter.  The male Goldfinch are turning bright yellow, and for the first time we saw a small flock of Wild Turkeys out on the golf course.

Just a few of the green leaves coming up that I can see from the window, here two day lilies, one Leopard's Bane, and the 4th (closest) I don't remember.

Can you see them?  One day we had all kinds of maple keys stuck upright in the grass.  No idea where they came from at this time of year!

Another view of the golf course and part of the garden from up on the deck.

And finally a mystery object of bright corrugated stainless steel sitting on the deck.  Can you guess what this is for?

  1. We had quite a heavy snowfall in the wee hours but it is raining quite hard now so it will quickly disappear. The day lilies are up. Hardy things!
Is the metal box intended for compost?

  2. Your "green man" doesn't look to happy to see spring approaching, he must prefer winter. I'm guessing the steel tub is to store water for watering the garden. Good to see the turkeys out there; if the golfers don't scare them off the toms should be starting to strut any day now. We had about three inches of snow last night but it won't last long.

  3. I have no idea about the box. We have had flowers out but got snow last evening so the wee plants are not happy today.

  4. Is the metal tank for water storage for the garden?

  5. Compost? Water? outside spa bath for Mrs F.G.? Guess I have to wait and see. Signs of spring, lovely, here the bluebells are shooting up green spikes, one bulb from a friend so many years ago, I thought was lost, is flowering, Brunsvigia Josephinae , that has candelabra bright pink flowers. Photo to come in a few days when it is fully open.

  7. It's another raised bed! If we could get a few days of warm weather in a row everything would pop.

  8. I think it's to hold water for the plants. I love to see all the green coming to your area, even if it's a bit later than here. :-)

  9. I think you and the Green Man are related. I think you are going to stock that metal tub with gold fish so you can do some fishing from the deck.

  10. It's a new bath tub! At least that was what it was when I was a kid. :)

I'm guessing it is for water storage or it's meant to be another raised bed for flowers or veg.

  11. I haven't a clue as to what those pieces of metal could be. Something garden related no doubt.
Seeing how the first green leaves are coming up I'm still so amazed that your Dwarf Irises were blooming weeks ago.

  12. Sadly our wild turkeys never last very long. I think the fox is getting them.

  14. The lawns aren’t too bad, and the trees should begin to leaf out soon.
