Pills, Pills and More Pills!

With the addition of the antibiotics I'm taking, my pill regime has got complicated enough to tax my simple mind!  It sometimes seems like my life revolves around taking pills.

In normal circumstances I take 20 pills a day, of 10 different kinds (8 of those are pain pills).  I'm well organized and place all my weekly pills out in two pill containers so I can follow a regular routine of pill taking; otherwise I'd get hopelessly confused.  The regular routine works well.

But the pneumonia has added the antibiotics and two puffers, and neither are on the same schedule as my regular pills.  One is a mid-afternoon pill, but should be taken with food.  The kink in my regular schedule just seems to challenge my brain.

All this being said, I'm rapidly getting better and feel like I'll be back to normal soon.

Nice sun here, but still cold.

PS  Thank you for all your kind comments yesterday, and let me add that I did have a Covid test and it was negative.  Pneumonia is a high risk for paraplegics, since the loss of trunk muscle control makes breathing and coughing more difficult.  I actually have a cough-assist machine which I use several; times a day which really helps.  One major U.S. study showed that for older populations, pneumonia was the leading cause of death among paraplegics, so I have reason to be careful!

  2. I am happy that the antibiotic is working for you. I just bought a new pill box to keep me more organized but the one that I take three times a day doesn't match the schedule with the morning and dinner pills. My brother has his all setting out in a row on a counter and has notes one everything. Once I am done with a dose my one gets turned upside down. I again say that I am glad you are better.

  6. The only way I found was to have a plastic container with Monday to Friday, a larger one for Hugh's a.m. pills, a smaller one for the evening ones. I have heard that our St John Ambulance have a new system to make it easier when they attend a call out. A magnet on the fridge with their logo on it, and inside the fridge, in a plastic bag or jar, you own list of all medications and times.I have heard that when they call on some patients, all the pills, maybe as many as yours or more, are all jumbled up in a plastic bag.We both have a typed list in our own pill containers, I am guessing you might need a bigger one soon, not quite a suitcase yet!! So glad you are feeling better, and so glad the vomiting was at the top of your body, and not down lower.

  7. No fun to be sick. You've got some good friends here making comments. I'll put my voice along with the chorus...hope you feel better soon. That sunshine sure should help!

  8. I can sure identify with four words you used. 'Simple mind' and 'challenged brain.' I think that is commonly thought of as 'Old Guys Syndrome'. And I only have 7 pills to take daily. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery from that bout of pneumonia.

  11. I used to have to help the young people with their medication when I was working and remember what a nuisance it was when the Doc suddenly threw in a new pill which didn't fit our routine. You found yourself worrying about it all day and then completely forgetting about it at the very time it was due - so you have my sympathy there. I hope you'll soon be well enough not to need extra meds.

  12. The bright spot is that you are recovering from the pneumonia. That was worrying.

  13. I took one pill that was so complicated in and of itself. It was to be taken x time after meals and x time before, and I think there were other criteria. We had to sort it all out with paper and pencil.

I have a pill container for just my few pills at night. Otherwise, I can’t remember if I have taken them or not. Even then, I sometimes forget, either to take one or that I have taken one. I have to go back and check.

My ignorance is great as I guess I never realized that one could experience so much pain when one is paralyzed. I can only hope they work well enough to give you some quality of life.

  15. Very glad to hear that you're feeling better, keep up the good work. Yes indeed, pill taking can be complicated; I take eight in the morning, one at supper time and three late in the evening -- and that's not counting the four antibiotic pills (taken one every six hours) when I've had an infection. Kudos to whoever first made those weekly pill containers.

  16. I'm so glad to hear you are recovering. It makes sense that pneumonia is high risk for paraplegics. I take almost as many pills as you do, but only one is a prescription pill; the rest are vitamins, mostly for my macular degeneration.

  17. So sorry to hear about the pneumonia. Glad to hear you are on the mend. I've been away from blogging for a while so am trying to get caught up. I have trouble remembering to take my few pills even organized in weekly containers. I have to lay them out in a place I won't miss them. - Margy

  20. I just checked your weather in Meaford on Ynr, and it tells me you will be mighty cool up there, 2C or 3C, so inside will be the best place to recover. We will have rain all day tomorrow!!!Our Wednesday.
