I took my big Nikon SLR to get the pictures of McGowean Falls, the first time of used it except at the living room window since my enforced stay in hospital for 7 months. It's heavy for me, but it worked well. And that meant the resolution was terrific compared with my typical iphone shots. And that meant I could play around with editing a few pictures, and crop way in to show the detail of the water. Here are the results.
It's not really a solid flow of water, it's all full of bubbles. The patterns fascinate me.
I also shot an iphone video. I do wish I'd shot videos of every waterfall I visited in the past, but I didn't, and now I can't get to them. I watch lots of hiking videos on YouTube, to put myself to sleep at night and it seems that the entire world of photography seems to have changed in just the last five years to use many more videos than still shots. Hope this one will load for you.
I haven't yet watched the video, but the water is so vigorous and charming in your photos! :-)
ReplyDeleteI put the video on full screen, it is amazing, the torrent of water rushing down, the colours, and the sounds.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy your photographs and the video, it loaded and played for me, with no problem.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
All the best Jan
The textures in your detail shots are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThe video loaded just fine. Sure would hate to fall in that water!!
ReplyDeleteThe video works very well. I am stunned at the cost of serious photography. A fellow I know just bought a lens - $9,400! With careful planning I could make two three week birding trips to Ecuador for that!
ReplyDeleteGood shots. Editing is fun and often necessary to achieve what you envision. The video worked well. You were very steady which is not always easy.
ReplyDeleteImpressive flow and a good video. The third still photograph is especially nice with its repeating patterns. It's become so much easier to shoot videos than when we were young and cameras now have image stabilization to reduce the "jitters".
ReplyDeleteThe power of water. Good video. Glad you were able to get out and film it and enjoy some time in nature.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I love the sound of the water in the video.
ReplyDeleteThe water is amazing!
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean you have more strength in your arms to hold the camera?
Great video!
ReplyDeleteGreat video. I can’t keep the camera steady like that. I love the sound of the water!
ReplyDeleteYay for heavy Nikons. Good stuff, great pics. That video really shows the volume and power of the Falls.
ReplyDeleteGood photos! :)
ReplyDeleteYour second shot is my favourite. Good video!
ReplyDeleteI remember the experience of sitting one afternoon in a chair overlooking the Chaudiere Falls here and listening to the roar of the water, and feeling as if I might get lulled to sleep.
