Birds at Parkwood

One of the first signs of 'nature' I saw at Parkwood were the birds.  They were all common birds, and I only got a few very poor photos, but it connected me to the natural world I love.

Most of the birds were House Sparrows, but you might notice the Red-winged Blackbird in the back right corner.

A little closer.  The medium size birds is a female Red-wjng.

Only once I saw a Cardinal.

A female Red-wing.

A Mourning Dove.

Many of the birds were attracted by seeds provided by another patient who regularly brought birdseed to the edge of the frogpond.  Although the Chipmunks were attracted as much as the birds.

I kept wondering how much they were eating, and how much they were storing away for the winter.

One more, a Canada Goose carved from a big old stump.

I miss feeding the birds here at the new house but don't want to attract the bears.

  2. I imagine munks do it half and half- some for right now, the rest for winter storage.

  5. Having never seen a Cardinal I now have some idea of their size from your photos. A few birds to watch can make the world seem a much brighter place.

  12. It's amazing how many of we humans are able to bond with the birds of nature. Filling up the birdfeeders and watching the little fellas coming to feed gives one such a great feeling inside. A feeling of purpose. A feeling of well being.

  13. I love the birds, even the house sparrows. But that carving is just beautiful! It looks like the chipmunk didn't even wait for her to put it down before diving in! :-)
