We dropped down to the shoreline the other day to see where the ice had been growing up the trees. When the waves are rolling in and the temperature is below freezing, ice steadily accumulates on everything along the shoreline. Here's a selection of shots.
Something we never seen on the west coast - we may see little icicles on the end of branches but not the long and heavy icicles you shared today. Beautiful.

Wow! Gorgeous and dramatic. Thanks for the great shots. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I am reminded of what happens around the Rideau Falls in the deeper cold of winter.
ReplyDeleteThat has to be tough on the trees. We experienced about 3 major ice storms over the years. Lost huge limbs and entire trees due to the weight of the ice breaking them apart. A beautiful red maple split right down the middle. It is sad that is causes damage since it really is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNow that's impressive ice and just built up from spray. It must be really beautiful on a sunny day.
ReplyDeleteyou could find interesting patterns in this ice build up. We never see that here.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonder they survive. - Margy
ReplyDeleteWow, very cool!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and backtracked through it...So many ups and downs and twists. I saw the question about cleaning motorized wheel. Did a little search and found this post. Now will try and paste to your post: https://www.caregiver-aid.com/cleaning-wheelchair-wheels/
ReplyDeleteI thought it had a bit of good ideas.
The trees seem to be surviving well despite the ice treatment - I would have thought it would kill off young trees before they became established but they are obviously made of stern stuff.
ReplyDeleteLove the ice hanging from the so mystical looking.
ReplyDeleteSuch dramatic and cold weather. You have captured it well, and given me a chill!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I don't think I've ever seen that much ice on trees.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty but I'm thinking that many of those branches must get broken.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice when the wind and waves get together in below freezing temperatures to create their fantasyland fairy like ice creations along the shores of our Great Lakes.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images! Wind and waves can really change the shoreline.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful but chilly!
