Winter Inspiration

It's a new year, and I'm searching for winter photography inspiration.  Already I'm tired of being stuck at home as much as I am, and yet another picture out the back windows.  Got to get off my duff and get out to enjoy it.  So I've searched through the past few years' January photos to see what I can find to inspire me; here they are.

Cross-country skiing at Glenelg Highlands

A frozen waterfall on the Bruce Trail

Country views.

Hoarfrost morning.

Snowshoe exploring.

After the snowfall.

Winter shadows.

View of the valley.

One thing I notice immediately when I got back to search through old photos is that the best ones were taken on sunny days.  They were all taken either when I was out driving around, or when I was snowshoeing or skiing.  None of them were taken at home.  So I guess the message is I just have to get out there and enjoy the new year.  Now if the arctic deep freeze would just ease off, and the sun come out, I'd be ready!

  3. Absolutely glorious - almost inspires me to get out - and we don't even have such cold temps as you do - but I'm a big sissy and mostly take photos from the car. Enjoy your outings - looking forward to the new photos.

  4. Winter Shadows!!! That is #1 for me today. And, I never get tired or bored with photos of snow, little, a lot, huge piles, a few flakes, or beautiful mounds that look like sculptures. Do you have a camera weighted " bean bag" to put on the window frame of the car, and rest your camera on? I made one, a circle, too small, and the new one is a rectangle, 3 partitions, weighted with doll beads. I'm sure Mrs F.G. will whip one up in no time for you, it saves having to held up a heavy camera with an extra heavy lens. Please keep posting some snow pics!!!

  5. I know we don't get as cold as you do, specially our normal weather, but it is -6ºF here right now...the highest I saw today was 2ºF but the weather said it got to 4....and that is just too cold to enjoy being out.

I love these from previous years and have been looking through the archives, too.

  8. Nice reflective set from January's past FG, and great idea!

It's always a productive exercise of reflection when I go back through my catalogue of images looking at my work from time gone by. In addition to discovering a hidden gem or two, it always stirs memories of the places I've been, experiences I've had.

  9. What beautiful photos of winter! I love the blues/purples in the shadows on the snow, the barn view, the hoarfrosted trees, it's all wonderful to see. I'm way down here in s.e. FL where it is lightly raining at the moment, a 'cold front' will be coming down after the rain. Down around 40 Wed. & Thurs. nights. That's cold for us.

Thanks for sharing the beauty of your wintry countryside ~ FlowerLady

  10. Reminds me of when I lived in Maine. Beautiful winter scenes! I like 4 seasons but would have a hard time dealing with a real winter again. It has been a low of 6 (F) the last two mornings and that is cold enough for me.

  15. I must admit that I do miss the snowy mountains of New Mexico. The sun usually came right out and the white stuff was gone in a day or two-- but not before I shoveled all my steps and driveway! Here in south Floida it could get down to the low 40s in the next couple of days.
