The Day Lilies, the biggest highlight of our garden at this time of summer, are going strong. We've got a range of colours, but there are more subtle differences between the varieties too.
As you know I like bright colours, so I like this two-tone orange one, one of the later bloomers. These yellow ones illustrate some of the subtle differences. This one has a darker centre and wiggly edges to the wide petals.
Finally this picture shows you how Day Lilies keep on blooming, one bloom a day. As you can see there are lots of buds on this plant, enough to keep it blooming for quite awhile. This is typical of Day Lilies, as only one bud opens a day..
Hope you're enjoying the summer!
Our day lilies have stopped blooming, but instead of just pulling out the stems, the groundscrew cut them all back to nubs. Who knows if they'll survive! So glad to hear someone else talk about the wiggly edges on daylilies!
ReplyDeleteI've slowly been splitting some for my back. It's not going well. Maybe I should shell out for more!
ReplyDeleteA friend who grew them commercially had acres, with each colour in a row of its own. All shades, are beautiful, your dark one is stunning. Our small township has some deep yellow ones plots by the street.
ReplyDeleteI agree the purple one is a wonderful colour. I hadn't realized they set one bloom a day though. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteYour daylilies are gorgeous. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful variety. Ours are winding down but aren't spent yet, except maybe for the ubiquitous orange ones out back.
ReplyDeleteMy daylilies need some attention. They must be divided I am guessing.
