In Owen Sound the other day we headed for Harrison Park for lunch and a walk after physio. We got take-out burgers which are absolutely delicious here, and sat in the shade. I had heard that the old 'One Mile Road' had been paved as a trail so we were going to check it out. It hasn't been a drivable road for as long as I can remember.
After our burgers we crossed the bridge and headed for the trail. No big fish in the river now, but we'll go back in September to see them.Apparently there was some controversy about paving this trail through the woods, but I didn't dwell on that 'cause it was just HEAVEN! to finally be able to ride through a bit of mature forest, something I used to do walking in ages past.
The trail curved one way and then the other as we went down the east side of the river, heading for the other bridge at the far end of the campground.
I recall driving through here as a very young child when we visited our grand-parents. My Nana didn't get out much, but she loved coming here. The road itself didn't last very long after that; it became just a walking trail.
How wonderful that is! People don't think about people in your situation when they are against paving things like this. We all have a lot to learn.
ReplyDeleteLovely views!
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased that you now have this lovely trail through the woods!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you that the trail was paved and you were able to enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeleteI am just so happy that the trail was paved and you were able to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs, and so nice to see you and Mrs FG.
All the best Jan
Good for you -- glad you've got a wooded trail to enjoy. Being along the water there will wildflowers in the spring and colored leaves in the fall.
ReplyDeleteThere are more and more trails like this on many of our nature reserves, though I sometimes think that they should do more to let people know that they are there. Glad that you can at least get out for a short while in amongst the trees.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news!
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful that paved trail would be for you, and for cyclists too, I imagine.
ReplyDelete(I wear red because I like it. That was a decent shirt though. Usually I just wear tees.)

Such a beautiful place. I have a friend whose husband is now in a wheelchair and she says they go "walk and rollin'" together.
ReplyDeleteOh isn't that nice! It looks like a gorgeous spot to wander and enjoy the trees and plants and river too.
ReplyDeleteTo be able to ride through that wonderful trail is such good news, and Mrs F.G. ,lovely to see you there too. The leafy trees, shadows and sunlight, what a delight.
ReplyDeleteI really like that idea of the paved narrow road through the woods. I would like to see that idea catch on and grow. It would make for easier access for many folks like yourself. Bicyclists, Tricyclists, and wheel chairs come to mind. Solves the muddy forest trails in the spring and after rainfalls. It would be easy to run a snow blower through in the winter to make a nice easily accessible trail for winter walkers and hikers.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing quite like a walk through that green glow. I can only imagine what a treat it was to ride there.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful trail and I'm glad you were able to tour through the trees!
ReplyDeleteThat water under the bridge makes me want to take my shoes off and walk on the stones. I'd probably end up on my butt but it would be worth it! Ha ha
Nice pictures of the two of you. :)
It is a great place for you to visit with wonderful trails in the woods. I haven't walked a path for a long time. I need to get that corrected.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for you!
