Our bird feeders have now been loaded up with seed and the other day I spotted my first two winter birds at those feeders. These are terrible pictures, but I'm hoping they presage a winter with lots of birds!
The first is a Chickadee with its characteristic black cap. There were several, for just a few minutes.
The winter birds are around the boardwalk these days too. Wish the rain would stop so we could go there again.
ReplyDeleteDown here the birds are very busy building nests or already getting worms for the chicks. Those feeders are wonderful for the winter days when food on the ground is so scarce.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have lots and get many photos to share.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your birds this winter.
ReplyDeleteChickadees are a year round bird here, it seems. Enjoy the entertainment!
ReplyDeleteWe had a good apple harvest here this year. By which I mean many windfalls have ended up in next door’s garden. The neighbours never touch the apples and the birds won’t go in their garden because of the wooden retaining walls around the perfect lawn. But sometimes a fox will carry an apple or two into our garden and then blackbirds flock to our scruffy lawn to eat the fruit. If they get spooked they can easily scuttle under my rose bushes to hide. We have wrens and robins too. Sometimes even a goldcrest (really exciting!).
ReplyDeleteIn Switzerland we also have neighbours with a pristine lawn. They too have no wildlife in their garden. We have flocks of goldfinches and huge families of sparrows. When the weather is bad up the mountain we get alpine choughs (very shy) and when we are very lucky we get the local bearded vultures sailing over. Such huge beautiful birds. Not a birder but my mother collected stamps with birds on and I put them all in order for her. Yes, it’s a very nice fruit/nut mix.
DeleteHappy days!
