We turned around and headed back home at this point, wondering if we would see any more Sandhill Cranes. Well, we did! But they were a very long distance away, like a grey line on the far side of the field.
Can you see all the cranes way over there?
We stopped to get a shot of these three cranes fairly close, though they took off flying.
These final three photos show a long line of Sandhill Cranes gathered on the far side of the field, not much to look at but a record for us. We drove home happy after a good day hunting for the remarkable Sandhill Cranes.
That certainly looks a lot of Sandhill Cranes!

They are beautiful to see, even from a distance
ReplyDeleteBig birds are so impressive aren’t they. I was on the bus at a big local intersection where the road goes over a brook where I very occasionally see herons. We stopped at the traffic lights and suddenly a heron flew past really close. It flew so slowly I don’t know how it stayed in the air. Do your cranes fly slowly?
ReplyDeleteI can imagine your excitement at seeing so many. I would be thrilled with the sight of one!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's an amazing number of birds. What great luck in finding them.
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a lot of them!
ReplyDeleteI've been working on my 2025 calendar and found the one photo of a pair of cranes in our area. I thought of you and your adventures.
ReplyDeleteNot a lot of grains in that field, but a lot of Cranes.
ReplyDeleteI always think of the area in Nebraska where they fly through. They seek out tourist both spring and fall. I am glad you got to see them this year as I know sometimes you don't find them anywhere.
