First Snow

I knew you'd all be wanting to see these pictures, so |I dug out my old laptop I  haven't used in about 4 years, and eventually got some recent pictures loaded up.  So here they are.  It's the biggest sudden change in the seasonal year here, as the pleasant days of fall vanish in a cold autumnal storm, and we are into late fall, with the threat of snowfall always near.  Thursday night after the trick or treaters went home, it struck.  It came along with high winds on Georgian Bay, doing considerable damage along the shoreline.  Here's what we woke up to Friday morning.

It was a wet snow that blew in off the bay and stuck to the north side of the trees.

One of the two big golf course Sugar Maples that I watch lost all its remaining leaves in the wind, but the other is stubbornly hanging on.

The bird feeders are up, and lots more has been happening.
And I'm gearing up to survive six months of living indoors!

  1. Whoa! That's way too early for snow. It makes for nice photos, but that's all I can say in its favour.

  2. I am sure you will not be indoors for all the winter, I see snow in other friend's photos too, I almost envy the beauty you have of those deeper leafy colours, we don't get it so much in the North Island,. but Otago has the colder winters and shows reds and oranges like yours. Do you have to change the tyres for snow tyres? I know friends in Halifax do, and already in another part of Ontario another friend has already done that. Super bird feeder, that will flock round and enjoy a tasty meal right in front of your window.

  5. Since I do a feeder count for Cornell University in the second week of November I got my feeder up today. I will have to buy a bag or two of feed this week, as the birds are already visiting. The first snows are the loveliest as they mix with fall colors and your photos reflect that.

The round bird feeder is unique. I like it.

  8. Beautiful, especially with some of the fall colors remaining. Hope you can get out on some pleasant days in the coming winter. We've not even had flurries yet, years ago we would have had our first significant flurries in mid-October.

  9. So this is winter's first attempt at your place. It seems that in the fall it takes a while for snow and cold to settle in.

  10. Good the trick-or-treaters got to go out before the snow arrived. I had to get my old Mac out this week. Plan on taking it to the cabin just to help us watch "TV" using the Internet. Monday we are fleeing south to California. But maybe we are going to have problems avoiding fires for a little while. Things are terrible down there. - Margy

  14. Well, I can't thank you enough for the SNOW pictures! ha ha We did have a similar view and was just as glad to see it go away. We will also have a different feeling for it when the time comes that we have no choice. I just hope it isn't too soon although one never knows.
I love the circular bird feeder, what is that? Suet or apple slices?

  16. As much as we do like snow, it would be OK if it held off until at least after the Thanksgiving holiday which will be at the end of Nov here. That said, i did enjoy seeing the snow photos here.
