On Tuesday this week we headed off to see the sunflower field at Sandhill Creek Farm, west of Hepworth. The sunflowers were at their peak. and we had a great time. Got a few pictures too!
As soon as you pull up you can see the thin line of the sunflower field beyond the barn.If you look closely you'll see all the sunflowers are facing to the right (east). Since we were there in the afternoon, there went the theory that sunflowers turn to face the sun all day long.
The trails were great, wide enough for people to pass easily. You can see straight ahead the rows indicating where the sunflowers were planted. As long as I was moving parallel to those rows, I was comfortable, but as soon as the trail turned and I was riding across the rows, it was very uncomfortable. It had been packed down hard, but not quite enouigh!
Wow, and the closeups, shows what an intricate design all through. My few plants, they did turn to the sun every day, and rotated their blooms as the day progressed.
ReplyDeleteSo fabulous.
ReplyDeleteA little research, young plants rotate and when the stem and plant are mature, the flower head faces East all the time.So I must have been seeing my younger plants turn. And in your photos they must almost all must be mature and stay in that position. Something new for me to learn.!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love sunflowers!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant color . Here the canola fields give us the bright yellow but we don't have any trails to follow through the field.
ReplyDeleteI love sunflower fields. These photos are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWow!

ReplyDeleteI have sunflowers in my garden. They are just buzzing from dawn till dusk.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! What an amazing sight! Interesting about them rotating. I didn't know, but Nancy's comment explained it well.
