Here's a winter interlude, interrupting our summer canoe trips for a moment. Today is February1st, and here in the north, it's a brilliant sunny day. If you take my word for it, you could actually feel the warmth of the sun outside, the first triumphal hint of spring to come (though we have to get rid of a lot of snow first)!
So here's the view out our back window, though as with all these photos the editing doesn't remain true to colour in such bright sunlight. The unhealthy Sugar Maple out in the golf course still looks good, with two small recently planted pines beside it.
A Note on the Editing. In extremely bright sunlight like today my camera automatically darkens the picture to try to balance the light. It's a problem whenever you take pictures in a snowy landscape. But editing to try and get the photos back to being bright again distorts the colour. You can see above, snow often looks bluish, and the sky sometimes looks almost turquoise. But they're close to correct colours if not perfect!

I like it when the snow looks bluish, it's pretty. Loved all the snow pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreat winter pictures, but we are looking forward to Spring's arrival.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
You achieved great contrast of snow scenes showing varied shots as you did. Love them, FG.
ReplyDeleteThe sun can make those cold days look warm until you get outside!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, the red chair is losing its snow! Spring must be just around the corner. :-) Oops, but maybe more snow is coming. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYes, to all that white stuff, down here some rain, mornings darker , nothing new in the news department.Picked almost the last alstroemerias to put with some greenery for my doctor today.Seems others do the same, a beautiful vase of callas, maybe snapdragons and greenery with green buds?? such a pity your yard stick is buried.
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely a difference in the sunlight now, and the daylight hours have lengthened. We are on the upswing to spring.
ReplyDeleteI've never known if 6 weeks more of winter is a good or a bad thing. I suspect it depends on where one lives. In Saskatchewan, just six weeks would be wonderful. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the drift off the roof!
That great lump of snow hanging over the edge of your roof looks likely to fall at any minute!! You sure have been blessed with a lot of snow!
ReplyDeleteAs a vlogger I follow says, 'Not perfect but better .' Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteit surely does look like the snow on the back of the chair has melted a bit. It was in the mid-teens (F) here today but there was snow melting wherever a dark object stuck up through the snow.
ReplyDeleteI miss my old Kodak EasyShare digital camera. I've never had another camera that worked as well for snow.
ReplyDeletePoor snowstick being almost completely buried!
ReplyDeleteGreat photographs though.
Happy February.
All the best Jan
You still have enough snow! Us too!
ReplyDeleteThe snow totally missed us. We were well prepared but got none.
ReplyDeleteI know the snow is white and pretty from this distance but I still hope it is long gone by the time we get back in April!
ReplyDeleteTharmt drift in your roof is scary! But what beauty all around you. I never tire of looking at snow.
ReplyDeleteOkay, let's hold the pedal to the metal and power our way through the next couple of months to April.
