Just so you don't think I'm fooling you, these are some pictures from past years, all from the last week of October or the firsat of November. They are quite incredible birds, and have been increasing in numbers around here quite quickly!
Birds we saw near where we visited with the cattle in my last post, 2024.
\A long line of cranes against a dark fencerow, from 2024.
A closer look, 2021!
Cranes in flight, 2021!
I really like the one of the cranes in flight. I do not think I have ever seen one of these birds!
ReplyDeleteThose were good years for Sandhill crane viewing. It's unfortunate that you missed them this year.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to these posts. Perhaps you will get some fresh material next year.
ReplyDeleteIt is strange that you missed them this year, but for anyone heading to the sunshine state of Florida during the winter, you will be surrounded by Sandhill Cranes.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time
Thank you for sharing these older photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
So many Cranes. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI thought you’d found some this year! They sure were plentiful that year!
ReplyDeletei don't see them here so it was fun to see your pictures. nice capture of them in flight!! those are some huge groups...none this year???
ReplyDeleteWe have sandhill cranes here in the Pacific NW of the USA too ... and I'd bet up in BC, Canada, too. But these photos are extraordinary. Thanks FG.
ReplyDeleteIs there a local website recording crane sightings? I have never seen a crane so I imagine them being a bit like European storks. I hope you manage to catch a glimpse of your cranes soon.
ReplyDeleteI remember my mom getting excited about the sandhill cranes when I was a kid. At the time, I was meh, but at my age I'd love to see them again. Hopefully next year you'll be fortunate to find them.
ReplyDeleteSeldom do we see cranes here, even though the occasionally breed in a nearby county. Think about going back in a week or so, maybe the cranes are just late.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds. I've never seen one in person.
