How Do Read Your Blogs?

I receive notice of the blogs I follow either in my email or in my Reading List on Blogger. I usually read them that day. I comment if I notice something particularly interesting, but not all the time.

Having missed almost 6 months of blog reading, I'm now in the unusual position of being able to read all the sequential posts from one bloggger day after day or week after week to atch up.  It is givivg qme quite a different impression of those blogs.  You get glimpses into a blogger's life the first way, but you get to follow the story of their life for a while the other way.

For example, I'm currently catching up on Al's 'Travels with the Bayfield Bunch, one of my favourites.  In March they were driving their RV home from the south.  Reading it this way lets me follow their whole trip day after day, which I really enjoy.  I'll probably put in one great big long comment at the end.

Soon I'll get to some of all those other blogs out there awaiting my attention.

As for readers commenting on my blog, some comment rarely, others comment if I  comment on their blog.  And finally there are those of you who comment regularly regardless.  You're the ones who have kept me going these long dark months.  On reflection, I'm going to read more blogs sequentially rather than as isolated posts, and I'm going to try and be more generous in my comments.

  2. For the most part I read blogs daily. I have a blog list at the bottom of my blog and it lets me know when a new post is published. I usually comment but not always.

  3. I read blogs that are updated on my sidebar on the blog and usually but not always comment. I figure if people can post on a daily basis I can usually comment, It makes the blogging for us even more worthwhile.
So nice to here from you again, angled that you are making some progress.

  4. I read the blogs on my list every day, comment usually same day, or the next, and when there is a long gap between, start to worry. I sometimes have huge gaps between my posts, I have a friend who posts every day. One friend had gone on holiday but kept that part private, so I emailed a mutual friend, so happy to be reassured all was well. I can see that reading one blog in sequence makes their lives so much more real. You are a miracle, to be typing, reading, doing rehab physio, and more, and keeping us up to date of all your progress, slow as it may seem to you, to me down here, it is truly amazing!!!I hope with my heart I am one of the " regardless" as with my own blog, I value comments so dearly. Fond wishes to you and Mrs F.G.

  6. We have had our internet down at the cabin for two months, so my blog reading has been limited to town trips once a week or so. I try to catch up with the blogs I follow on my Blogger Reading List. I comment when something catches my eye and I can relate to. Glad you are back to blogging and blog reading. When I find a new blog that sounds interesting I go back and read about 10-20 posts to see it it is something I would like to follow. I can see how doing it that way more often with my regular list might be more interesting. - Margy

  7. Glad you're back online FG. Stay with us! Just to show how astute I am, I just now noticed the link to "Scotland" on your blog. I love Scotland, have been there twice, this last time for about a month. My ancestors are Scots. I can't WAIT to read your entire Scotland info. So there goes my whole day tomorrow and probably the next day too. :-)

  9. Hello, I usually blog daily and I like to read blogs early in the morning . I read the blogs first that comment on my blog. But I also usually have time to read down my blog list on my sidebar. I am glad to see you are doing better and back in blogland. Take care and I wish you well. Have a happy weekend!

  10. This is Patsy, commenting on Bill's laptop. Mine is sick and in the shop today. :( Boy, do I miss typing!
I love this post because it sums it up for us too. I often think my writing everyday when we aren't moving must be very boring for readers but if you really wanted to follow someone's life, that shows all sides, doesn't it? Some busy days, some dull days and some not so great days. Nice to see you pop up with a new post whenever you can. :)

  11. Given what you've been through, it's entirely understandable that you're going to be less active commenting. Recovery has to come first.

I tend to start out with scrolling down to where I left off the previous evening. Then I open up a particular blog that tends to feature a sidebar list of blogs they follow that have recently posted in the last twenty four hours, most of which I'm already following. Some of those have the same feature. I open up extra windows, maybe five at a time, comment, and work my way through that set, and then get started with the chronological order.

P.S. I get blog updates from my Blogger reading list in my dashboard and a few I follow by email.

  13. I read and comment on blogs in the same haphazard way in which I write one! Don't feel obliged to read all the blog posts which I've written while you've been hospitalised - you've suffered enough recently!

  14. I love 'blogland' and read quite a large and varied selection.

Recovery for you is number one and very important, sending my thoughts and good wishes as you continue to recover.

    All the best Jan

  15. For a published author, I don't often find much to comment about. I try to give a heartfelt 'cool', or 'beautiful' at least, for my photography friends.

I do sense a connection to those regular commenters. They're special, and give me a smile.

  16. Hey Stew you made my day and thank you for the mention. You are in a rather unfortunate but unique position now to share your thoughts and feelings from a different angle and perspective than the rest of we Bloggers out here. With the circumstances you are experiencing and how you are dealing with them can and will be an inspiration to many others.

  17. I use a reader that alerts me to a new post from the bloggers it is called The Old Reader. Seems I am always behind on reading. Then I catch up on a rainy summer day or too cold winter day.

  18. I am so glad that you can check on the rest of the world. I know that it is great to follow those who live in places where I would like to live or places where I can learn some much about the area. It is so good to have you back and up on the net.

  19. I have attempted to check for posts on your blog but missed several days and it turned into almost a month. What a joy to find your back on line with posts!!!! Praises all around to doctors and your determination to survive!!!!!!! While we will all miss your walkabouts on Bruce Peninsula I am appreciating your noticing the smaller things our world has to offer. Thanks for your courage and your posts. Continued prayers for your recovery.
