Day 141

The Furry Gnome reporting in here.  About time you may say, and you're right!  It's day 141 in my visit to the big London University Hospital where I've been spending my latest healthcation.

There are lots of details you'd like to hear, but I'll leave that for later.  Fit to say, I have been taken off dialysis and I'm peeing lots --- a minor miracle for anyone with kidney disease.  Only took five and a half months!  I've now been accepted to Parkwood Hospital's Spinal Cord Rehab Unit, one of the best in the country.

There are a number of smaller points of progress.  I can ride my own wheelchair around the hall (but boy is that hard work)!  I've learned where all the cracks in the sidewalks are  and avoid them.  But outside there are several nice places to sit with plenty of green to sooth the mind.  Even the lowly House Sparrows have been fun to watch.

I'm looking forward to more progress and will keep you up to date.

  11. SO good to hear from you, a long time to be inside, even a glimpse of blue sky will be cheering. Hope the progress continues. Basic body functions are so important, and I can only guess at what they ask each morning, noon and night , checking intake and output. Really glad the latter is ample. Many caring thoughts to you both from a very cool NZ.

  22. Kelly and I were sure glad to see you pop up on our sidebar again. These have been very long days for you and Maria. You will be glad for a change of scenery when you reach Parkwood. About 7 or 8 years ago I used to pick up and drop off wheelchair people at Parkwood and sometimes I would have to wait for them. I discovered a really nice nature area complete with a big pond or two behind the hospital. It's a forest setting and was a true oasis of nature in the middle of an urban environment. At some point you may be able to get back there as part of your rehabilitation. There was some neat old buildings there too. Best of luck Stew and keep those blog posts coming:))
