I don't think I've ever seen snow disappear so fast as overnight last night. The temperature is up around 15°C and it's been a windy two days. A lot of snow is vanishing through sublimation; the wind just sucks the moisture out of the snowbanks. As commenter mentioned yesterday, fog appears over the fields as evidence of the water vapour being sucked out of the snow. But there's so much melting going on that we also have water running out the base of the snowbanks and forming a tiny river down the side of the road.
Last night when we turned out the lights the golf course was still mostly white; this morning it's half green.Out front you can see the water seeping out the front of the big dirty snowbanks. And you can never get away from the big Canadian flags on our street!
We've just had a noisy thunderstorm, and torrential rain. I agree about the snow disappearing fast! It's kind of scary.
ReplyDeleteIt's pouring here. I just looked at the school playground across the way out back. It's mostly clear. That huge pile out front that I've been fretting about is about 2/3rds done -- rough estimate from the upstairs window.
ReplyDeleteBe gone with you, is a good set of words. I am glad you are melting and spring looks promising. We are below freezing in the night then we have to readjust from the warmth of last week. I will be glad to see those blooms from you garden.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a change in just a day. Is that a golf course in front of your house? My son would love that!
ReplyDeleteYes, the back of our house looks over a golf course.
DeleteNice to see you have a little sign of spring! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the land coming out of its prison.
ReplyDeleteYay! Love how the way snow vanishes overnight when it’s warmer. Snow is almost gone from our lawn, about a month early this year!
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish it looked like that here. We had another couple of inches overnight and it's snowing still. More shovelling for me. :(
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the warmer weather and keep sharing signs of spring. It will happen here...someday.
Pleased that it is melting, it's nice to see crane snow-stick again:)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
