I enjoyed lunch with a few pf my Bruce Trail buddies where our conversation turned to a new project for the trail. We're going to propose a lookout and try to come up with a design that will be accessible for wheelchairs. At the end of that stimulating discussion I turned around and headed home. So here are a few of the sights I recorded for posterity on the trip home..
Right down at the foot of Parker Street, in front of a house that looks out over the bay, was this nice patch of Scilla.
I finally had the opportunity to get a close-up photograph of these pretty little flowers.
Unfortunately just around the corner was this badly mutilated enormous White Ash. Can't believe someone would do this!
Then it was around the back of the long term care home, and down the wiggly sidewalk.
It's always nice to get out to visit friends. The wheelchair accessible lookout sounds like a wonderful plan!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm shaking my head at the ash tree, one wonders why they didn't take it all down. And then I look out our dining room window which overlooks the neighbour's yard and I see an old elm that was cut back even more atrociously and realize not everyone thinks they way I do.
Oh, the scila! I found one growing in the front flower bed while I was weeding two years ago, and that hardy little thing came back last year as well. I do hope it multiplies!
What a fun little bird house. I bet the birds love that.
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law was in a care home. It was a nice one that cost my sister in law $3000 a month. The prices here of the care homes are outrageous.
The flowers are so pretty.
I hate when people chop trees like that. Hopefully it leaves out again soon and comes back looking nice.
I hope you keep us posted on the trail project. It sounds like a worthwhile undertaking.

Your scillia are somewhat different than the varieties that I tend to see here. I must keep my eyes open, but I suppose they will soon be done

ReplyDeletei have purchased and used the bird seed bird houses several times, my birds like them!! i think tulip magnolia trees really beautiful. all of our early spring blooms are long gone!!

ReplyDeleteToo many of the Tree Trimming services hire students to do the job, without properly training them. They basically destroy the trees.

Gorgeous flowers. Maybe the tree cutting folks are coming back in a day or two to finish the cutting of the white ash? Love that bird feeder. :-) Hope you get some local support and money to help with that trail and accessible lookout, important stuff.
ReplyDeleteScillas are lovely but they're quite invasive, They've taken over areas in my garden and I can't keep them under control any more. That seed-covered bird feeder is interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs you may remember, my hometown is Tavistock, and my Uncle Fred spent his final few years at the same People Care Facility. Our neighbor has one of those Tulip Magnolia trees in her yard as well, and it is always so beautiful in the Spring. I like the project you and your Bruce Trail buddies have embarked on. Good people helping others.
