I'm going to try something different and instead of taking you back to late fall hikes I've done here at home, I'm going to take you out to British Columbia, to Abbotsford specifically, where we visited our daughter. The two trips out there are among my favourite memories. First, an introduction to the Fraser Valley.
The Fraser Valley is the location of the big flood a few years back. The farmland is flat and bumps up right against the mountains. The Trans-Canada Highway cuts right across the photo in the lower third,
Development all occurs on the mountains, as you can see.
These are the steps that let you get back up from the Clayburn Creek Trail. They quickly became our favourite! Sadly this trail was washed out in the floods of 2021. It's still not open.
The narrow valley harbours a Pacific rainforest, with complete walls of Sword Fern, and a thick layer of moss everywhere!
I did see some of the huge area of B.C. through grandson's photos and words. I learnt that inland was called " The Interior"? and huge wide roads throughout. Those steps, not for the faint hearted. Looking back at places we have visited is so rewarding every time.I was recently in the South Island and saw places we didn't visit in 1986!!!
ReplyDeleteA lovely post and look back.
ReplyDeleteGreat photographs.
Those steps look amazing but such a shame the trail was washed out in the floods of 2021 and is still not open.
All the best Jan
The Pacific coast is a great place to visit.
ReplyDeleteI love that first photo and the shot of the steps, FG. Such a beautiful area. I hope it is eventually restored.
ReplyDeleteYou just sent me on a seniors journey trying to recall the name of the valley to the south of Fraser Valley where we visited in 2009. It's Osoyoos btw. :)
ReplyDeleteAbbotsford is a great place to live. We moved here almost 60 years ago and have never been tempted to leave.
ReplyDeleteShortly after I bought my caravan/trailer, COVID happened. I had a couple of years before COVID, and had camped up in British Columbia a few times, and made friends there (easily). But then I got stuck down here in the USA because the border was closed. FG, you just reminded me that the border is now open and I can go! Thanks to Granny Marigold's comment too. And, ah yes, I've been to Osoyoos, Anvilcloud. Ok, the Fraser Valley is on my list for 2026! Thanks FG.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful country. Those stairs look like a trip to the hospital is in store for some folks who use them.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so beautiful. I have never been to the interior.
ReplyDeleteIt’s on my bucket list to visit BC. These photos make it even more enticing!
ReplyDeleteI've been to Abbotsford!
ReplyDeleteI wished I had been into nature and hiking when I lived in BC for a couple years back in the early seventies. I would have loved to have seen and been a part of all these places. Instead of just driving by on the highway.
