Just so you don't think I'm fooling you, these are some pictures from past years, all from the last week of October or the firsat of November. They are quite incredible birds, and have been increasing in numbers around here quite quickly!

I really like the one of the cranes in flight. I do not think I have ever seen one of these birds!

ReplyDeleteWe have sandhill cranes here in the Pacific NW of the USA too ... and I'd bet up in BC, Canada, too. But these photos are extraordinary. Thanks FG.
ReplyDeleteIs there a local website recording crane sightings? I have never seen a crane so I imagine them being a bit like European storks. I hope you manage to catch a glimpse of your cranes soon.
ReplyDeleteI remember my mom getting excited about the sandhill cranes when I was a kid. At the time, I was meh, but at my age I'd love to see them again. Hopefully next year you'll be fortunate to find them.
ReplyDeleteSeldom do we see cranes here, even though the occasionally breed in a nearby county. Think about going back in a week or so, maybe the cranes are just late.
