The arrival of fall is one of the grand changes that occurs over the seasons here. Fall seems to arrive more suddenly and more completely, when the leaves finally fall, than does spring. And of course it's colourful, at least if you live in an area with Sugar Maple forests. Over the next few posts I'm going to share the transformation that fall brings.
When we returned from our grand expedition up to Tobermory there was not much sign of fall colour.  The leaves outside our window were largely still green.
Only a few leaves had turned orange or red.
Across the golf course an individual tree always turns red first.
But the leaves on our own Sugar Maples were turning colour quickly. When I went out on the deck and looked up one tree's canopy was largely colourful, though the Norway Maple on the left remains green, even today.,

Nature gives us so many delights and golden and red leaves are among some of my favourites. As a child, we had a very old American jeep, ( left when the troops left NZ after setting up a base some miles from us) no motor, one seat, under the huge trees on the way to the cowshed. I remember decorating it with leaves, that's at least 75 years ago!!! Now, I have absolutely no idea how my Dad found or acquired that old rusty vehicle. Here, my small maple shrubs are just coming into leaf, and the small hibiscus shrubs are clothed in green already.Your maples are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAutumn, my favorite time of the year, and I think it may be yours as well. Those sugar maples sure shake up the Autumn colors. Being one hundred and fifteen miles south of you I also found Autumn to be on the late side this year, but when it began to happen, it really began to happen and here and it is almost November already, And, we are in full color mode down here.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty time of year. We've had some rain and wind and most of the leaves are gone now.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the oaks, most of our leaves are down. Not the best color this year thanks to the dry weather of late summer and early fall.
ReplyDeleteIt comes and goes quickly, which must be part of the reason that we treasure it so much.
ReplyDeleteI treasure these falls days, like you following the change day by day. Wishing we had your sugar maples though! We have a few scattered ones but no forests of them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying all the trees out here too, turning pretty colours. Taking advantage of these days before Winter sets in.
ReplyDeleteThe change is gradual but the maples never disappoint!
ReplyDeleteI'm always so impressed with the red colour. We have few trees in our neighbourhood that turn red, it is mostly orange and yellow. Still pretty but not as striking.
